“Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow.”
-Robert Kiyosaki
Kiyosaki is very correct when he states this. People worry too much about the past or the what exactly has to be done tomorrow. What people need to learn is to live in the moment and learn how to worry about now while worrying about tomorrow at the same time. People should do today what will help them out in that instance but will also will help them out tomorrow. Instead of worrying about tomorrow you need to get up and do something that will make that tomorrow happen. I practice every day for lacrosse and study every day for school. I do this to be fit and smart but also so it will be easier for me to go to college.

NEVER
“THERES IS NO JUSTIFICATION EVER FOR CHOOSING ANY PART OF WHAT YOU KNOW TO BE EVIL.”
AYN RAND
This is completely true doing something evil should never even be an option. When you know in your heart that something is wrong you should automatically dismiss and option of doing that. A person should never do evil and only do what is right and just for not only what is for them but everyone around them. I believe that everyone should have to work on identifying the evil in the world so it can be eradicated and no will do it.

Tip 5
Tip 5 Keep a list of Questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they’ve read the texts and are familiar with them when you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the leaner.
Asking questions to you, to the teacher, and to the others, is a great learning method. When you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than almost anything else.
The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon Said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book … and a pen.

“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.
This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day.”
-John Wooden
What wooden is saying is one of the greatest things I have ever heard. What he is saying is that you have to make every day count. You have try to get the most out everything you do in like. In practice even though we are a state ranked team our coach makes play wall ball and has us do it for about half an hour. They also tell us to treat everything like a game. We do this to get the most out of everything. By doing that as a team and individuals we get better every day.

Tip 3: Do Research
Literary circuits have written vast numbers of analytical and critical pieces on countless books. If you are having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research and see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it in addition to increasing comprehension, you'll also be showing intimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides.
Tips 4: Use a Dictionary
Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t but sometimes you can. Rather than simply skipping over words you don’t know, tale the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.

“Every time I’ve done something that does not feel right, it ends up not being right.”
-Mario Cuomo
What Cuomo has stated is the bases of your gut feeling. When you feel like something is wrong it ends up bad. When you don’t feel right when you do something you know you shouldn’t do it. So if it doesn’t feel right you shouldn't do it. I remember when I was younger I tried to cheat but I felt guilty when I tried. I ignored the feeling, but ended up getting in trouble.

5 tips for success
Reading and writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.
Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important stories elements, key factual information and significant ideas in text.
Tip 2: Note the Authors writing style
Every other writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the authors writing. For example, you may notes a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols– or the use of a distinct type of sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

“The Three Don’ts”
Don’t whine
 Don’t Complain
Don’t make excuses
--John Wooden
These three don’ts are something that every athlete has to live by in order to play. What wooden is trying to say is that these three actions only stunt your growth as a player and as a person. When you just complain, whine, and make excuses you go nowhere and never improve. In my lacrosse practice whenever we complain we do sprints as a team, if we make excuses we run a mile. The importance of this is that all of the consequences to the complaining and excuse making our coach gives us makes us never complain, whine, or make excuses we just endure.

Tips 3-5
 3. Set Attainable Goals
If you’re having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any projects in small chunks.
4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.
5.  Acknowledge your accomplishments
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an e-mail, or get a snack. Then move on to a new project.

“The Three Never.”
Never lie

-John Wooden
Wooden gives a layout of a perfect way to live. If people where to live by these three Nevers our world would be a lot safer. Many people go through their whole lives only cheating, lying, and stealing. When you do all of these your life becomes empty. One of my old friends convinced me to cheat on a test with him and we got caught and just lied about it. We still ended up getting in trouble, but it made me learn that I should never cheat,  and to never lie.

Motivation

5 Tip for staying motivated
Tips 1-2
To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.
1. Focus on high-impact activities
The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your work load before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that make more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in their order of importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greater impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam take priority over writing a paragraph for an English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.
2. Create New Challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history book, instead of another biography.

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of you trails the pleasure of an approving conscience.”
 --Robert E. Lee
Lee is completely correct. What he is saying is you can always turn around and do what is right. You do not have to stay on one path and that path only. Also like anything else choosing the right will become easier with practice. If you start to choose the right as much as you can it will become second nature. Also once you start to choose the right you start to feel good. That good feeling will radiate as long as you always do the right thing. For example one of my friends use to not always choose the right, however one day he started to and now he never does the wrong thing and at every chance he gets he helps whoever needs it.

Control that Homework

Take Control of Homework
So it Doesn't Control You
Part 3
Take advantages of any free time
If you have long study periods or long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around.   Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages you can even have a separate ringed stack for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER PUT IT ON A CARD.
Study with a friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joying a study group.
Communicate
If you have con concerns about the amount or type of homework you have you might want to talk to your family, teachers or counselors. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your task.
Celebrate your achievement
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.

Crockett is right on the dot with this statement. You have to be sure you are right before you proceed in any situation. If you are not certain with something but still go on ahead you will surely trip up and be ashamed or embarrassed. In a stressful situation if you are not for sure you are doing the right thing, then you may possibly make the situation even worse.

Part 2
Keeping things in perspective
Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and use your time accordingly. Don’t waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important thing first is being wise and smart.
Get more involved
Keep your mind from wondering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with others or relating your homework to something you’re studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engages in your studies and you will have great experience. Demonstrate a good attitude toward home assignments, and you will begin to love doing them.
Organize the information
People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw pictures or charts to digest information, others prefer to read out loud or make detailed outlines. Try to find the methods that work best for you. Ask your teacher for recommendations if you’re having trouble.

“Character is higher than intellect.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Emerson is at the center of truth when he states this. Intellect can take you very far and help you throughout life. However that intellect will mean nothing without character. When you have good character people follow you and will trust you over anyone else. Intellect is extremely important, but one thing that does trump it is character.  In survivor situation people tent to choose someone with good character to run the group over the person that is just smart.

Homework control

Take Control of Homework
So it doesn’t control you
Part 1
Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:
·         Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.
·         Build study habits that are essential in college.
·         Prepare for your classes.
·         Get a sense of progress.
Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.
Set the method
Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.
Know where to begin
Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t   have to face them at the end.
Study at the same time every day
Even If you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

Part 4
For review
Once you’ve done all of the above, you’ll find you’ve created your own personalized study guide. Cover the main section of the page and use the keys words and questions in the left margin as a quiz.
Stick to it
Review your notes the day you take them and all your notes once a week. That way, you won’t need to study as much as when its test time.
You’ve been doing the work all along
Try out the Cornell system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your class mate how they take notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking god notes requires practice, like any other skill. And the more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll be to take notes in college.

Fight

Fight
My time has been pack for a while. However I want to fight and learn Japanese while I learn. The main fighting styles I wish to learn are Muy Thai, Taekwondo, Karate, and Judo. I have learned a small amount of the few. Yet I want to gain more experience in them. I am not sure but I find joy in fighting and seeing these fighting styles. I wish to learn Japanese while I do this because I plan to travel to japan once I finish school, or even during school. I plan to try to accomplish this and progress in at least one of these fighting styles.

Farmer incident

A high school student what put in prison for robbery, kidnapping, and assault. He was sentences to 3 years in prison with bailout. Now he has to wait to peruse a basketball career if anyone will still take him.

It is a travesty that a great player like Farmer has lost a great career that was right in front of him. Being an athlete myself I can feel the pain he is going through and think that this is horrible. However he does deserve this reality check. This will let him know that he has to do the right thing in order to succeed. This event will lead to his growth and allow him to grow up.

After class
As soon as class ends, review your notes and fill in any blanks. Underline, highlights and use symbols to sort through the information, if you don’t understand something, get help from your teacher or classmates.
After you’ve reviewed all your notes from class, in the left-hand area of the page write down key words and questions your teacher might ask on a test.
At the bottom of each page, write a summary of the notes. This helps you digest what you’ve learned. It also improves you r memory of the material for the long term and for test down the road.

“He listens well who takes notes.”
-Dante Alighieri
Dante is very correct. Notes improve your listening skills by tenfold. When you take notes you have to pay attention more. Thus in turn you have to pay attention more. This attentiveness follows on to other aspects in life as well. In every situation you will find yourself aware of many or even all things around you and you will note them all subconsciously. This is a great trait because then you will be prepared not only academically for higher learning, but prepared for higher living.

During class
One approach that has been proven effective is called the Cornell note-taking system. Here are some of its methods. Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:
1.   Get the speakers main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.
2.   Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.
3.   Organize as you write. Pay attention to cures such as repetition and emphasis.
4.   Indicate main and supporting points as you go.
5.   Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.
6.   Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

Maltz is very correct. People are capable of anything as long as they believe they can accomplish their goal. A person’s true enemy and obstacle that keeps them from success is themselves. You have to conquer your own fears and believe in yourself to reach your goal. I use to think that my level of lacrosse would never change so I stayed the same. That also affected my ever day life. However I was told to keep trying and I believed in myself and now I play on a higher level. It also made me want to succeed more in life and now I set out to accomplish whatever I want.

Getting the most out of high school and college means studying harder and using your time in class wisely. An effective note-taking strategy can help you with both. Here are the basics.
Stay organized
It may seem obvious, but your class notes only help you if you can find them. When you’re taking notes be sure to:                                                                                                   Keep all your notes in one place                                                                                                   Date and number pages; keeping them in order makes it easier to understand later Before class                                                                                                                                 Review the material assigned for that class period thoroughly. distance education 4

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You
Part 4 of 4
Emphasis on the writing word
Most of the communications, as well as the course work, in the distance learning class is written. That’s a plus, because the focused on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option for you until you improve your skills. Yes, most of distance education is the written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your internet communications at home isn’t working, you can’t do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the internet.
Decide whether it is right for you
Distance education isn’t for everyone, but it just might be for you. You really should seek it out and give it a try. You never know until you try. You might even fall in love with distance education. While distance education may be the perfect alternative for some students, it’s not the right choice for everyone. So carefully consider your unique needs and interest and give distance education a try: then, decide if it is right for you.

“YOU MUST LIVE IN THE PRESENT TO SECURE YOUR FUTURE.”
REVEREND ROBERT CRAIG
- I believe this is very true. What happened before doesn’t matter the most important thing everyone must focus on is what is happening in front of them at this exact instance. On my lacrosse team the Santa Monica Vikings we practice hard today and to prepare for tomorrow. If we work hard in the present and focus on the now, the then will fall into place perfectly when the time comes. My coach tells us that what happen before is the past what is important is what you do is in the here and now.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?
Part 3
Challenging Aspects of distance education
·         Lack of in-person interaction: some educators argue that both teacher-student and student-student contact are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom , you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or web conferences—but it’s not the same as being with other students in a classroom.
·         Different levels of quality: many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning experience, but others may not. Research any program before signing on to make sure it’s rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.
·         The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be the ideal educational setting for you.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Positive aspects of distance education
-Independence and time management: taking courses online lets you hone your ability to work on your own. You also gain experience in managing your time efficiently.
-A flexible schedule: school can only provide a certain number of class periods in a single school day, and there may not be enough time for you to take everything you want. Because distance education lets you take classes outside regular school hours, it gives you the flexibility to explore all your areas of interest.
-Advanced and specialized classes: some school can’t provide advanced and specialized classes. Distance education gives you the chance to gain experience in areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.

Alex Schwazer

Gold medal-winning race walker Alex Schwazer was the first walker to come in at the London Olympics after 3 hours and 39 minutes. Shortly after that he was found using drugs to enhance his performance and be faster. When he was found out he was band from the Olympics. After this incident he said he was proud, because if he was not found out he would have kept using drugs.
Reflection: this is a horrible thing that a great athlete like Schwazer would stoop to performance enhancing drugs just to keep his medal title. I think that people that use performance enhancing drugs are very low and horrible people. However Schwazer did the correct thing and did not deny the fact that he used them. He stepped up and told the truth and was happy. Happy at the fact that he did not have to hold the weight of knowing he did not really achieve his goal.

Virtual Learning

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You
Part 1
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/high-school/47337.html
You may want to take a class that your high school doesn’t offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class----through distance learning.
Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet-base technology lets students almost anywhere.
Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses.
For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening, or participating in the class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school student. Check with your school counselor to see what’s available.
